Meet Our Founder

Derrick Stephens, MBA, LCSW, QS

Derrick Stephens, MBA, LCSW, QS, is the President and CEO of Phoenix Healthcare Consultants, a full-service global management consulting firm that develops and implements custom business solutions for each partner. Through his leadership, Mr. Stephens has built Phoenix Healthcare Consultants into a company that challenges the norm and delivers comprehensive solutions to partners worldwide. He remains committed to the perpetual innovation that has driven his success thus far and will continue to drive him and his team in the future.

Mr. Stephens is dedicated to “creating villages” by bridging people, professionals, systems and communities through understanding, compassion and relationship building. He believes in challenging the status quo and remains focused on delivering the best possible outcomes for his clients. His commitment to perpetual innovation is what drives Phoenix Healthcare Consultants to deliver the most comprehensive solutions to their partners.

Mr. Stephens is a 2019 graduate of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Clinical Scholar Fellowship, where he led a team of healthcare professionals to Improve Quality of Life Outcomes for Florida's Foster Youth and Families. He is the founder of Underdog Dreams, a 501c not-for-profit organization that provides foster youth with the opportunity to imagine the possibilities, see a future filled with purpose, and live with intention.

Mr. Stephens has been a lifelong advocate for vulnerable children and families involved with the child welfare system, and his passion and dedication stem from his personal journey spending his childhood in and out of the Georgia and Florida foster care system due to his mother and father's battle with substance use disorder and mental illness.

Mr. Stephens obtained a Master of Social Work and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Central Florida. He currently serves as the Innovation and Immersive Learning Manager for the Florida Institute for Child Welfare, where he works on special projects with Florida's Department of Children and Families providing curriculum development and training, consultations, and executive coaching. His work has helped transform Florida's Child Welfare System through the use of education, physical and mental wellness, and innovative technology such as virtual/augmented reality.
